I went couchsurfing for the first time in Bangkok, and stayed with a lovely Canadian girl for a few nights, with whom I had an incredible time, hanging out with her friends and hitting the town. We got along great, slept in the same bed (she had a small apartment) and never hooked up. She did mention one instance I think, where her host (an older guy) tried to make a move on her and she was less than impressed by his lack of tact.

When I arrived back home and responded to a request by a young german backpacker who wanted to crash for the weekend, I was eager to respond, and again had a ball. I set up a spare mattress in my room, but it was very cold in the winter and she suggested we could share a bed to keep warm. She was a beautiful, charming , well travelled and intelligent girl and we didn't hook up. I don't know why, but I feel in some way it would have just marred the experience for me, tainted something I guess. We kept in touch afterwards and she actually expressed disappointment that I never made a move on her. Still, no regrets.

I've never tried couchsurfing before, but from what I've read it sounds like fun. I think that if you were to host someone and wanted a fling with them it would depend on how you did it. If you tried to get them drunk, then I'm sure that would be taken really badly. However, if you were to be a little smoother about it and make the person feel safe, it shouldn't be bad. It all depends on how the person couchsurfing takes those advances though.
