Turner,

Welcome to the Kiwi crew running in 5's!! Just found your post - Vibram FiveFingers are being released into NZ officially in March 2010. Have a look at www.fivefingers.co.nz for details. I've been running in them for the last 3 months and have noticed a huge difference (shin splints gone, and no longer have ITB problems). People still ask lots of questions and get tons of funny looks when I run around Christchurch - but demand is growing! Good luck with the training!
Cheers,
Paul

Congrats on your first minimal shoe run! Barefoot running form is so incredibly liberating, isn't it?! I have been to Auckland once - my mum was born there - so I have a few memories of the area I could use to picture you running in your VFFs. I started walking in them a month before I had back surgery. At only 3 weeks after my surgery, I was out walking and even running some, thanks to the new form the VFFs helped me gain (bent knees, forefoot-first footfall, etc.). I could never have done that in my brand new Asics. I put together a 12 Step Program to Run Shodless for myself based on all of the stories I was reading of people becoming exuberant, but overdoing it and ending up with stress fractures, sore calves, and aching feet. It takes time, and fortunately, because of my back, I have to increase slowly. I would love to hear what you think of the plan - it's over on Running Quest, my blog (12 Step Program to Run Shodless link: http://bit.ly/eGgHm).

Thanks for sharing, great job, and nice to meet you. Clynton
